About

Nippon Kitchen Supply exists because buying a Japanese knife shouldn't require a research degree.

There are thousands of knives, dozens of steel types, hundreds of makers, and a confusing mix of retailers ranging from trusted specialists to questionable resellers. We wanted one place that puts it all together honestly.

Every knife listing includes the maker, the steel, and where to actually buy it from vetted retailers. No fake "Japanese-style" knives mixed in with the real thing. No mystery dropshippers. Just accurate information so you can make a confident purchase.

What we cover

  • Knives: Gyuto, santoku, nakiri, petty, and more. Each with steel type, maker, specs, and community notes.
  • Makers: The blacksmiths and artisans from Sakai, Seki, Echizen, Sanjo, and other forging regions.
  • Retailers: Community-vetted shops with trust ratings. We tell you who's reliable and who to avoid.
  • Steel types: From traditional carbon steels like Shirogami and Aogami to modern stainless options like VG10 and SG2.

Our approach

We pull from community knowledge, manufacturer specs, and verified retailer data. Every trust rating comes from real buying experiences shared by the knife community. We don't accept payment for positive reviews.

If something is wrong, tell us. Accuracy matters more than being nice about it.
